The Art of the Brass Ensemble
Instead of asking, “How loudly can brass instruments play?”, this programme asks a more interesting question: “How beautifully can they sing together?”
From the magnificent ceremonial music of Renaissance Venice to twentieth-century concert works, brass ensembles have developed an extraordinary ability to combine brilliance with warmth. Listen particularly for the way individual instruments disappear into a single, unified sonority.
